Privacy policy

The short version

We collect the minimum to send you the regulatory updates you opted in to, plus aggregated usage analytics through Google Analytics 4. No advertising, no behavioural tracking, no data sale.

If you make an account on this site, it stores your email address, the answers you give, your quiz, mock and diagnostic results, your flashcard progress, and whether you have bought lifetime access. You can clear all of it, or close the account outright, from your profile page. Study progress in the iOS app is separate and stays on your device.

Who runs DealerPrep

DealerPrep is operated independently in Ontario, Canada. Privacy questions go to [email protected].

What this site collects

If you submit the email form, we store: your email address, the page you signed up from, your IP address, the country your IP resolves to, and your browser's user-agent string. We use this to send the regulatory and product updates you opted in to, and to keep our list clean.

Each answer you give on a free practice page is sent to us as well: the question, what you picked, whether it was right, the time, your IP address, your browser's user-agent string, and a random id your browser keeps so one visitor's answers can be read together. None of it is tied to an account. It is kept so we can see which free questions people miss and to stop abuse of the free pages.

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages get traffic and how visitors arrive. GA4 sets cookies (such as _ga and _ga_8609XL49X5) and reports aggregated usage to Google as our processor. We do not enable Google Signals, advertising features, or cross-site tracking. Google's privacy practices are described at policies.google.com/privacy.

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages and the audience list is stored in Cloudflare D1. Cloudflare may store and process data at edge locations outside Canada. Google Analytics data is processed by Google on infrastructure they operate.

Cookies

Outside Paddle's checkout overlay, this site sets only the Google Analytics cookies described above and a small localStorage entry to remember your light/dark theme preference. No advertising or remarketing cookies. You can block GA cookies by installing Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or by using your browser's privacy controls.

What your account stores

An account on this site exists so your practice is still there next time. It stores your email address, and a password if you set one rather than signing in with an emailed code. Everything else is what you do here: every answer you give with the question it was given to and whether it was right, every practice run and timed mock with its score and its breakdown by area, your diagnostic result, your flashcard reviews and the schedule they are on, and any question you report to us. If you have bought lifetime access, the account holds that entitlement and the payment provider's transaction id for it.

You can also give the account a first and last name and a sitting date. Both are optional. The name is only ever shown back to you, and the sitting date is what the dashboard counts down to.

All of it lives in our database, on a server we rent from OVH in Canada, and is readable only by the account it belongs to. We do not sell it, share it with advertisers, or use it to profile you.

Two controls on your profile page deal with it. Reset my progress clears every answer, run and flashcard review, so your scores start at nothing while the account stays open and anything you paid for stays unlocked. Close my account deletes your profile, your name and your sitting date, frees the email address, and signs you out for good. It does not touch the payment log described under Payments below, which sits outside your account.

Reset and close both hide your study data instead of wiping it straight away. We keep it so the mocks you sat still count towards a pass guarantee claim, and so a shared login can be looked into. Closing keeps the email address on record, which is how we restore a purchase if you sign up again with it.

Payments

Payments go through Paddle, our merchant of record. Your card number goes to them, not to us. Paddle gets your email address so it can send the receipt.

All we keep is the transaction id that unlocks your access, and a log of what Paddle told us about the payment so refunds and chargebacks can be sorted out later. That log is a financial record, so closing your account does not remove it. Email [email protected] if you want to know what it holds.

What the app collects

Nothing leaves your device by default. Study progress is local-first and may sync privately across your devices via iCloud, which uses your Apple ID. We never see it. Purchases go through Apple's StoreKit; we receive only what's necessary to validate your entitlement.

How we use your email

Roughly one email a month covering OMVIC bulletins, MVDA changes, CPD rule shifts, and occasional DealerPrep product updates if you've opted in. We won't share or sell your address.

Retention

We keep email addresses on the audience list until you unsubscribe. Google Analytics event data is retained for 14 months in our GA4 property, after which Google deletes it automatically.

Your rights

Under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) you have the right to: request access to the personal data we hold about you, request correction of inaccurate data, request deletion, and withdraw consent for marketing. To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We respond within 30 days.

Unsubscribing

Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link. You can also email [email protected] and we'll remove you within a business day.

Canadian anti-spam (CASL)

By submitting the email form you give express consent to receive commercial electronic messages from DealerPrep. You can withdraw consent at any time using the unsubscribe link or by emailing us.

Children

DealerPrep is intended for licensed or licence-pending dealers and salespeople in Ontario, who are adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13. If you believe we have, contact us and we'll delete it.
