About DealerPrep
Why we built it
Ontario dealers and salespeople have an exam to pass to get licensed and another to keep the licence. The free study tools out there are full of ads and none of them show you the law behind an answer, so we built one that does. Questions, flashcards and mocks, in your browser, with the provision right there beside the answer.
DealerPrep is one of three Blackletter sites, each built on the same idea: the law first, the questions written from it, the provision beside every answer. BrokerExam does it for the RIBO Level 1 broker exam, which is restricted open book, so the practice there is as much about finding the provision as knowing it. LBExam does it for the California contractor Law and Business exam, closed book and drawn from four codes rather than one Act.
How questions are written
We write every question and article on this site from the public sources cited beside it: the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act, its regulations, OMVIC's own rules and its published decisions. Nothing here comes from a course book, someone else's question bank, or memory. Before a question goes live we check it against the source, then go back and check it again with the draft out of sight, working from the cited section alone. If it does not hold up, it is fixed or it goes. Where an answer rests on the law, it links to the section, reproduced here, so you can read it yourself rather than take our word for it. If you spot a mistake, tell us and we will put it right as quickly as we can.

Where a dealer sells a used vehicle and can work out its distance driven, what must the contract state?
Paragraph 3 of s. 42 requires the contract to state the total distance that the used vehicle has been driven if the dealer can determine that distance. Chapter 5 covers retail disclosure requirements.
