Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
OMVIC's CPD program (branded REVS, Raising Excellence in Vehicle Sales) became mandatory for Ontario dealer and salesperson license renewals on or after July 1, 2026. DealerPrep helps you prepare for the assessment without staring at a portal.
Who needs to do CPD
- Dealers: every year, before renewal
- Salespeople: every two years, aligned with the two-year registration cycle
Portal access opens 90 days before your renewal date.
Format and pass mark
- Cost: $99 per cycle
- Time on task: claimed at 4–6 hours; many find it longer
- Assessment: up to 3 assessments at the end of the course
- Passing grade: 80%
- Retakes: unlimited, with content review unlocked on the second attempt
- Identity check: camera required for verification
What the curriculum covers
First-cycle topics centre on OMVIC's mandate, MVDA compliance basics, ethics and professionalism, all-in pricing, mandatory disclosures, and advertising standards. Future cycles add business office operations, financing, and fraud prevention. The curriculum is personalised by registration type.
How DealerPrep helps
On the first attempt CPD doesn't let you go back to review content before answering. DealerPrep gives you the practice the portal doesn't: questions across the same topics, with cited explanations from the MVDA and OMVIC's published guidance, and a revision mode that resurfaces what you got wrong.
Grandfathered registrants: Key Elements
If you registered before January 1, 2010 and haven't completed the updated curriculum, OMVIC's Key Elements course (40 questions, 1 hour, 80% to pass) needs to be cleared before your first CPD cycle.
DealerPrep is independent and not affiliated with OMVIC. CPD/REVS assessments run on OMVIC's portal; DealerPrep is study practice, not the official course.
