The Automotive Certification Course exam
Every new salesperson and dealer in Ontario writes this exam through Georgian College's Automotive Business School of Canada before they can register with OMVIC. DealerPrep is built to be the study companion you use alongside the official course material.
Exam format
- Questions: 60 multiple choice
- Time: 90 minutes
- Passing grade: 75% (45 of 60 correct)
- Open book: hardcopy manual only, no electronics
- Delivery: webcam-proctored online or in-person
- Re-write: pay the course fee again, no attempt limit
What it covers
The 18 chapters of the official manual. Topics include the MVDA and its regulations, OMVIC's role and enforcement, registration classes and exemptions, the Licence Appeal Tribunal, advertising and all-in pricing rules, mandatory disclosures, the Compensation Fund, the Code of Ethics, record-keeping, trade-ins, leasing and finance, safety standards, complaints and trust accounts.
How DealerPrep helps
Mock exams that match the real format: 60 questions, 90 minutes, same balance of topics. Chapter quizzes for targeted study. Flashcards for the dollar thresholds and timelines you'll be tested on. Every explanation cites the MVDA section or OMVIC source it's based on.
How long does the course take?
The course is self-study with up to 12 weeks to complete from the date of registration. Most candidates use the bulk of that window; DealerPrep is designed for the daily 20-minute commit between car sales rather than a binge before the exam.
What you get for passing
The C.A.L.E. (Certified in Automotive Law and Ethics) designation, and the basis to apply for OMVIC registration. Salesperson registration is valid for two years; dealers renew annually.
DealerPrep is independent and not affiliated with OMVIC, Georgian College, or the Automotive Business School of Canada.
